Where to stay in Viterbo near the thermal baths
Viterbo and its countryside form one of central Italy's richest thermal areas: naturally hot sulphur springs, historic spa resorts and free open-air pools that stay open all year. Our two apartments are in the historic centre, in the medieval San Pellegrino quarter, a few minutes' drive from the main springs.
The closest baths to the apartments
Both the equipped spas and the free pools are a short drive from the historic centre. Distances are approximate, by car from Via San Pietro.
- Terme dei Papi (Strada Bagni): a historic spa with a large monumental pool fed by the Bullicame spring, about 10 minutes by car.
- Piscine Carletti: free open-air pools, also open in the evening, about 10 minutes by car.
- Il Bagnaccio: free-style country pools with a small entrance contribution, about 15 minutes by car.
- Bullicame: the spring Dante mentions in the Inferno, with a free bathing area nearby, about 10 minutes by car.
- Tuscia Terme: a spa with sulphur-water pools and a wellness area, about 10 minutes by car.
When to go
Viterbo's thermal water is enjoyable in every season: in winter the contrast with the cold air is part of the experience, while in spring and autumn the free pools are quieter. In summer, go early in the morning or in the evening. The free pools have no staff or facilities: bring sandals, a large towel and a waterproof bag.
Hot springs on a motorbike trip
A typical day for riders: a morning of bends through the Cimini hills and Lake Vico, an afternoon at the baths, dinner in the San Pellegrino quarter a few steps from the apartment. Your bike stays safe in our locked garage at no extra cost.
Why start from the historic centre
Staying in the centre lets you combine baths and city without long transfers: the apartments sit on the edge of the restricted traffic zone, so they are reachable by car and motorbike, 4 minutes' walk from the free car park on Via delle Fortezze and 7 minutes from Porta Romana station.
